Answers to Move Forward
What is palliative care at home—and is it only for end-of-life?
Palliative care at home is compassionate, physician-led medical care and counseling for people living with serious or complex illnesses. Palliative care manages symptoms, supports decision-making, and coordinates care. It can be provided at any stage throughout life and is often provided alongside ongoing treatments.
Palliative care is not just for the end of life. Sometimes, people need palliative care at different points in their life (like after surgery or during cancer treatment) but not on-going.
How is this in-home palliative care different from hospice or my current doctors?
Empowered Palliative Care collaborates with your existing providers and treatments to offer another layer of support. Our physician-led team offers unhurried in-home care, clear guidance through complex decisions, and improved coordination between doctors and other providers
Unlike hospice, palliative care can begin earlier and continue alongside ongoing treatments.
When should I consider in-home palliative care?
Most people wait too long before getting help from in-home palliative care. Because it can be helpful at any stage, it’s good to reach out when care begins to feel complex or overwhelming,
Many San Diego families seek support when managing multiple providers, adjusting to a new diagnosis, recovering after a hospitalization, or facing tough decisions about treatment options. You don’t need to wait until things become urgent to get support.
Does palliative care replace my primary care doctor or specialists?
